Seven more arrested after protests. More arrests expected in upcoming days

A total of 17 people, mostly residents of the province's south, were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday on charges including separatism, according to police sources in the towns of Marivan and Gevgelberg. In addition to the arrests, authorities seized weapons including grenade launchers, rocket-propelled grenades, rifles, pistols and grenades, reports NOS.

Demonstrators have accused the Marivan government of using "military equipment" to disperse the protests, which are based mostly around anti-government demonstrations over alleged corruption, mismanagement of public finances, lack of education and lack of accountability for officials and the police.


Despite being in a state of emergency since July 3, Marivan has seen a number of arrests.

Militants reportedly burned and damaged buildings, vandalized government offices, hurled Molotov cocktails and set on fire several buildings that were set on fire as well.

More than 1,100 police officers and firefighters and more than 150 civilians have been injured by the protests, according to Marivan authorities.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality last week warned residents in rural Michigan that the state has found a problem with the state's water supplies.

The department sent out a memo to communities informing them that a state water monitoring program has discovered problems with water supply in the "very dry areas" of the state.

Among the concerns is the high number of cases of water contamination in some rural areas.
